Angry Odd Kids
Angry Odd Kids (aka AOK) present themselves as the project that Carlos Teixeira, former bassist of Fonzie, brought with him from Miami when he came to Portugal in 2003.
In 2005, after a two-year break, Carlos started looking for new members with the aim of reviving the Angry Odd Kids. Miguel on drums, Pete on vocals and guitar and Tiago on bass soon joined the adventure.
With a few rehearsals and jams in between, playing old AOK songs and developing ideas as they went along, the band soon decided to write new lyrics, but this time in Portuguese. The aim was to do something different from what most bands of their genre were doing in Portugal. So, with a sound based on melodic rock and muscular riffs, influenced by South Florida pop-punk, euro dance and 80s hard rock, the Angry Odd Kids began to make their way on the national music scene.
At the beginning of 2006, the band went into the studio to record their second album of originals, an EP entitled "Histórias de Sempre" with compositions entirely in Portuguese. The lead single, "Sabes bem como sou", was very well received by television and radio in general, reaching the top of MTV's Hit List Portugal, as well as the charts of several national radio stations, including Best Rock, Antena 3 and Mega FM.
In 2008, AOK returned to the studio to record their first album of originals with sound engineer Ricardo Espinha, known for his work with bands such as Fonzie, More Than A Thousand, Klepht, One Hundred Steps, Icon and the Black Roses, etc. The end result is truly surprising, a fact that was also helped by the work of M. Teixeira, whose programming & sampling credits range from the American singer MYA to New Found Glory, Finch and The Starting Line.
On their debut full-length, the Angry Odd Kids feature, among others, Hugo Maia from Fonzie and João Pedro Almendra from Peste & Sida on the opener "Olhos 'tás parado" and the MCs from Mundo Secreto on "Confissões Anormais".
"AOK" was the name chosen for the Angry Odd Kids' debut album, released on 6 October 2009. In all, there are 16 new songs full of the energy and irreverence that characterise South Florida pop-punk, sprinkled with Eurodance electronic atmospheres, the combination of which gives rise to a truly electrifying sound. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that the Angry Odd Kids are starting a new phase in Portuguese punk rock.
Some time after the release of the album, the band took a break that lasted until the beginning of 2024. This year, on 13 September, they are preparing to return with the new single "Só Um Par De Palavras", a cover in Portuguese of the original by the '80s Spanish rock band, Hombres G. The line-up for this recording was Pedro Peralta on vocals, Miguel Leite and Carlos Teixeira on backing vocals, Carlos Teixeira on guitar and bass, Miguel Tomé on drums and Ricardo Espinha, guitar solo.
Following the new single, the debut EP "Histórias de Sempre" and the first album "AOK" will be available digitally in October in an "extended bonus track version" format to commemorate the 15th anniversary of their original CD release.
The current Angry Odd Kids line-up consists of Carlos Teixeira on vocals and guitar, Miguel Tomé on drums and vocals, David Rodrigues on guitar and Luís Fernandes on bass.
